I found Dutch online collections today... Another great time eater. Anyway, I found this 1775-1800 cotton jacket / half-robe (property of the Nederlands Openluchtmuseum) made from monochrome chintz (?) that just screams "modern day historical reinterpretation" to me. I mean, as in a dress idea.
Feel free to steal the idea; I don't have a fabric like that.
Also, I can't help thinking the style is more modern than the dates suggest. Maybe it was an old fabric made into a newer style? A refashion?
Yes, picture it on a skinny model, with dark tights, hair up in messy bun, oversized bag, etc.
ReplyDeleteChintz, maybe - with an "n"?
And oversized dark sunglasses and chunky jewellery.
DeleteOops, that's what I meant - the site actually says "sits", and that's why I put that question mark there... guess it carried over into my interpretation as well. :D
Yes! Which makes me think of Audrey Hepburn, who would have looked cute in it, too. A timeless style, really; good for Regency times, our modern era, and in between.
Deletewhen i saw the picture in my reader, i thought it WAS a modern day dress!
ReplyDeleteIt just looks the part, doesn't it?
DeleteI wouldn't have known it was a jacket instead of a dress if you hadn't said something!
ReplyDeleteThe Dutch site says "jak"; I think it's a half-robe, which is something in between, a bit like... a cardigan?
DeleteIt's beautiful - it reminds me a little of an artist's smock (but the sleeves are too short) - it just proves some designs never date.
ReplyDeleteThey only date immediately afterwards, and only because people get bored easily... :D I love the timelessness of certain Regency styles.
