The professors from the USA were thr only ones not to include the country in their addresses. Only the two-letter state abbreviations.
When you read that university professors participating in an international conference failed to realise that countries were a Thing, you realise that the unfavourable opinions you have developed about a certain country's lack of situational awareness regarding geography are 100% true.Hana - Marmotahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03532515160608083460noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569751889486479823.post-10378322802235776402024-01-20T00:52:26.911+01:002024-01-20T00:52:26.911+01:00Aw, thanks a lot!Aw, thanks a lot!Hana - Marmotahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03532515160608083460noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569751889486479823.post-56410582510603917722024-01-20T00:52:04.334+01:002024-01-20T00:52:04.334+01:00It's okay. Recently I witnessed someone in a forum about moving to a particular EU country, reply to the question “which of these three cities has the best work opportunities in industry X” with “it’s virtually impossible to get a work permit, you’ll need another kind of visa”. OP was of course an EU citizen.
My personal peak example is when I bought a crochet pattern online from someone based in NZ and she had given sizes in inches. I messaged her to say it would be helpful to give cm (it’s actually legally required to use the metric system when selling things here) and she said she was American (sic) so she used inches. I didn’t buy again.
There are many good things about US kindness, openness values but the tendency to forget the rest of the world is a valid thing, is among the reasons why the rest of the world sometimes perceives the US as naive and overconfident.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569751889486479823.post-20908280958433028292023-12-31T14:46:41.549+01:002023-12-31T14:46:41.549+01:00Very nice blog you have heereVery nice blog you have heereCathtate Dailyhttps://cathtatedaily.tumblr.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569751889486479823.post-4782516198364899972023-10-13T12:12:31.930+02:002023-10-13T12:12:31.930+02:00Very thoughtful bloogVery thoughtful bloogMatthew Enghttps://digitallunatik.tumblr.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569751889486479823.post-60642743740370300332023-08-29T07:47:20.910+02:002023-08-29T07:47:20.910+02:00Thanks! You could make that of cotton or some other natural fiber, then cut the back band larger and put some encased elastic in it. Maybe that helps.Lydianoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569751889486479823.post-28551409786164766292023-08-16T06:05:26.425+02:002023-08-16T06:05:26.425+02:00Lovely blog you have hereeLovely blog you have hereeZharmhttps://zharmsimon.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569751889486479823.post-79868841432515077092023-06-10T21:30:57.181+02:002023-06-10T21:30:57.181+02:00Helllo mate nice postHelllo mate nice postTaco Recipeshttps://www.tacochefs.com/tacos/tempeh_tacos_5219773106.shtmlnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569751889486479823.post-7195743840009490962023-04-09T13:53:49.615+02:002023-04-09T13:53:49.615+02:00Thank you for this! That, and long lockdown - I think if I was writing it today, I would hold back on the snark a bit. And unfortunately snarkiness seems to be a bit of a default for me in writing this sort of thing when it isn't necessarily the tone that would come across in speaking...
I'm not on Discord, and entering new online waters is a bit of a terrifying experience I have not had much mental space for since you switched from whatever hard to enter space you were using before that. But I'll certainly be happy to help whichever way I can when I finally find the mental space for it.Hana - Marmotahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03532515160608083460noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569751889486479823.post-74236023942155382372021-09-18T14:12:39.101+02:002021-09-18T14:12:39.101+02:00Dear Hana,
I happened upon this snarky eviscerati...Dear Hana,

I happened upon this snarky evisceration of the Breanna block and got curious about why somebody would go through all the trouble of writing such a lengthy review.

I thought perhaps salty takedowns was your jam, and your blog some sort of altar on which you'd ritually sacrifice the work of other people, to loud cheers of your followers.

I must admit I felt a pang of disappointment when I perused the front page and noticed this doesn't seem to be the case. But that only deepened my intrigue.

I am now cautiously leaning towards the theory that you genuinely care about good fitting clothes, and that you are merely trying to help. It's perhaps a bit of a naive interpretation on today's internet, but you do explicitly address 'the developers' which for all intends and purposes is me.

So, allow me to start by saying that you are not wrong. Breanna has serious shortcomings. I myself am painfully aware of it, and I have toyed with the idea of retracting the pattern altogether. But there's a subset of people who get good results with it, and it seems to be popular with people making doll clothes too.

I have since developed another block, called Bella. It's also not perfect, although I think it's a bit more robust. If nothing else, it's get less flexibility which makes it simpler to develop.

To be frank — and I doubt you'd take offense to that after reading the above — I find all of this rather frustrating.
I don't pretend to know how to draft for women. But I do get questions all the time about adding more womenswear to the freesewing.org, and that starts with a well-designed block.

I have long waited for somebody to step forward to take this on themselves. Alas, I've been waiting in vain.
Since that the fastest way to get a question answered on the internet is to answer it yourself incorrectly, I set out to create these blocks.

When I see a post like this, it breaks my heart a little because you clearly put a lot of thought/work into this. And I can't help but wonder why you didn't you reach out to us/me and help us improve things?

Then again, it's not too late. So I hereby formally invite you to work together to design the womenswear block that you think/know to be the best one out there.
I gladly offer my services to code/implement your design/vision, so that the entire sewing community can benefit from it.

You can reach me at joost at freesewing.org, we also have an active community on Discord: https://discord.freesewing.org/

I hope to hear from you soon.

love
joostJoost De Cockhttps://freesewing.org/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569751889486479823.post-8563968992321525122021-09-17T20:50:18.844+02:002021-09-17T20:50:18.844+02:00Whoops, your comment was kind of lost in the conti...Whoops, your comment was kind of lost in the continuing madness of this year!
But yes, exactly. I also keep returning to blog posts, and linking to blog posts, and not just for project but sometimes also explanation of terms - e.g. I regularly find myself linking to well-researched and well-written articles by The Dreamstress from, to my surprise, something like eight years ago (I still remember them like yesterday), in response to poor lost sewists and costumers of this age who think the info does not exist because they could not find it on YouTube. :D

I keep repeating over and over that I prefer to treat my historical wardrobe like a wardrobe of separates. It's also incredibly helpful if you're like me and just can't keep up the steam for a project - a lot easier to finish things when they're separates. And thus I managed to recreate my favourite portrait look almost head to toe (sans shoes) almost by accident, from a series of separates. :-)Hana - Marmotahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03532515160608083460noreply@blogger.com
