Much like many popular histories of 20th century fashions make it look carefree and racy, but when you look just a bit deeper, you find all the ways in which many people made them less so...

The curator of the museum is actually member of the Historical Sew Monthly! I posted in the Facebook group and she saw it. I have a standing invitation to go and visit the museum, which apparently I got much earlier, but somehow it got lost in Facebook history and pushed aside by some other pressing matters at the time. So, all's well that ends well? :-)

Happy new year!Hana - Marmotahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03532515160608083460noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569751889486479823.post-24913033248304017102016-01-02T02:44:27.804+01:002016-01-02T02:44:27.804+01:00Happy New Year, Hana! I

I always thought the fashions got carefree and racy in the 1960s! :D
I'm sure you're doing a good work here, detailing these past fashions. It sounds like this woman, above, has quite a huge task ahead of her. It's nice that she found your blog, and hopefully she isn't offended. :)Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12503930255842185609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569751889486479823.post-84016522692561974932016-01-01T16:52:34.116+01:002016-01-01T16:52:34.116+01:00Once again, thank you for all this additional info...Once again, thank you for all this additional info, and sorry if it came out insulting - it's mostly old frustration with the dearth of information speaking... Leimomi wrote about something like this, too (http://thedreamstress.com/2011/02/museums-are-not-infallible/) - sometimes I tend to forget that while I do have all that in mind and don't write my blog in a vacuum, for some visitors of it it can come across that way, if you see what I mean. Sorry about that.Hana - Marmotahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03532515160608083460noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1569751889486479823.post-6318806561222849892016-01-01T16:02:56.732+01:002016-01-01T16:02:56.732+01:00I´m working as a textile collections curator in th...I´m working as a textile collections curator in this museum. Let´s speak about wrong labeling. I´m quite well avare what is in this collection, I do show it in exhibions and consult with textil historians. But labes in this particular site (ces.mkcr.cz) are made automatically from our museum database. Item in this database were named and identified (material, date etc) in time, when they came into our museum - some of them prior 1907, other during later decades. Until quite recently, textiles were not given very much attention (we are mining museum, you know) and most curators were men - perfectly capable of describing uniforms in this collection, but less aware of ladys underwear.
When I became curator, my first goal was to improve storage conditions (see last photos in ces.mkcr.cz), then I take some photos (no item was pictured till this time). I wish I have time to correct all database descriptions, but so far I have no time for it. I´m looking after over 5 thousands items (not only textiles), making exhibitions, working with school groups and organising events. Even if this labeling is not always correct, I´m happy those items are on-line, avaiable for everyone and can speak for themselves.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
